Description
Today´s Computer Science and Electrical engineering industry is characterized by rapidly occurring innovations and a continuous advancement of existing technologies. Therefore it is quite a challenge for higher education institutions, especially the vocational schools, to keep up with the high pace of technological innovation. Furthermore, the vocational education has to be made more attractive to young people and feasible to full-time employees in order to stabilize the European leadership in product development and to successfully compete with overseas-countries.
Serious problems exist within the practical learning process occurring in the vocational higher education system itself. For vocational education institutions the main problem is the availability of (often cost-intensive) ICT based learning material, the lack of qualified teachers, and also the lack of room for capacious equipment. Another common problem is to exploit new Internet technologies for practical experiences in these fields.
This project is an innovation transfer project, which focuses on Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as well as Mechatronics education. The aim of the project is to combine the main concepts of the Distance Lab idea based on Interstudy (http://project NULL.roboticlab NULL.eu/index NULL.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12&Itemid=4) (2006-EE/06/B/F/PP-169004) project, Virtual μController (VMCU) from MoRobE (http://morobe NULL.de/) (DE/09/LLP-LdV/TOI/147 252) and Network of Excellence (http://distance NULL.roboticlab NULL.eu/) (NoE) from Autostudy (http://project NULL.roboticlab NULL.eu/index NULL.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=16) (EE/2008/-0012-LdV-001) project. Results from these projects will be transferred to vocational schools in Germany, Estonia and Finland and combined to a collaborative learning platform without the need of any hardware in the lab. Teachers should be able to collaborate with other teachers, to share their learning materials, to prepare exercises and exams for students and to evaluate their teaching scenarios. Students will be able to use simulated hardware, VMCUs with different virtualized modules as it is used in today´s official curriculum. The project will also fulfil the qualifications of the ECVET credit standard.
